He has been a member of the Ottawa Senators for his entire career which began with the 1997-98 season. He also serves as their alternate captain and is regarded as a stay-at-home defenceman. The Senators drafted him first overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He was raised in Fort McMurray Alberta.
