He was also known by his court title Yamashiro no Kami () or his childhood/adolescent name Higuchi Kanetsugu ( ). Kanetsugu served first as a kosh () to Uesugi Kenshin. After Kenshin had died he served Kagekatsu of the adopted son of Kenshin.
