She was born in Christchurch New Zealand and attended Fairfield College in Hamilton and Victoria University in Wellington New Zealand. Wright is best known as the current holder of New Zealand’s longest standing open women’s track and field record. The record she set for 1000 meters of 2.38.54 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium on 17 August 1979 still stands as the New Zealand national record.
